This luxurious 5-Star hotel is a bit more expensive than the other hotels I’ve recommended, but there is a reason. The location and views of the Colosseum can’t be beat. Questions About Hotels Near The Roman Colosseum
Is It Good To Stay Near The Colosseum In Rome?
My recommendation is to stay somewhere within the ancient Aurelian Walls because if you do, you will be close to all the major sites that you are probably interested in visiting. Staying near the Colosseum definitely meets that requirement and since it is probably the most important site in Rome and all of these hotel recommendations are only a short walk from it.
How Far Is The Colosseum From The City?
The Colosseum is within the ancient Aurelian walls and in what is considered the historical center of Rome. Staying near the Colosseum is also close to Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia and the Roman Forum, which are all places you will probably be visiting when you come to Rome. If you want to reach other areas in the city, you can walk or take public transportation as there are bus stops and a major metro station very close as well. If you are looking for convenience, staying near the Colosseum can’t be beat.
How Much Time Do You Need For Colosseum?
You can take a guided (or self-guided) tour of the Colosseum in only a couple of hours. If you are planning where to stay based on how long you will be at a historical site, you might want to reconsider. Visiting the sites in Rome can each generally be seen in a couple of hours, however, staying near the Colosseum is close to other sites you will probably want to see, making your entire stay convenient.
What Is The Best Safest Area To Stay In Rome?
Rome, in general, is as safe as any major European city. While petty crime is more common, like pickpocketing and purse snatching, violent crime is very rare. There are some areas that you might want to avoid at night, like around Termini station, but the areas around the Colosseum are safe and residential, so even going out at night isn’t too risky.

Is It Better To Stay Near The Vatican Or The Colosseum?
This totally depends on what you plan to focus on. If you are only interested in the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica or the Vatican Museums, then you obviously should stay in or near Vatican City. If you have other interests, I wouldn’t recommend staying near the Vatican, because it is on the outside of the historical center and beyond the Tiber river. You can easily use public transportation to get to other areas in Rome, but it will add significant travel time that you might not want.
What Is The Best Part Of Rome To Stay In As A Tourist?
In my opinion, staying in the historical center of Rome is your best bet. You will be conveniently located to all the major sites and you will have easy access to public transportation and taxis. The Colosseum is located in a great part of Rome to stay in as a tourist because you will be very close to all the important sites, and a short walk from some of the others.
Which Area Is Best For Your First Time In Rome?
The hotels near the Roman Colosseum are a great choice for a first time visitor to Rome. It is a safe area, convenient to major sites and public transportation and also close to some residential areas with shopping and restaurants that are less touristy.
