A Fall And Spring Packing List For Men Coming To Rome
Finding a complete fall and spring packing list for men coming to Rome can be challenging because most are generic, but this is specific for travel to Rome.
A trip to Rome is an exciting time, but if you are stressed about making sure you pack everything you might need, one thing to keep in mind is that Rome, and really all of the larger cities in Italy, are very modern economies that have anything you might need when coming from the US. This is another way of saying: Beyond a few specific things, like medicine or your computer, if you forget to pack something, don’t stress because you can buy everything here.
I previously wrote a complete packing list for men who are coming to Rome, and you should DEFINITELY check it out. This article is more of a seasonal list of items you should consider bringing, in addition to that general list of items in the other article.
What Should Men Wear In Rome In The Spring And Fall?
There are a number of things to consider when packing for a spring or fall vacation in Rome and the most important one is that you are traveling in the rainy season. You will want to consider including:
Non-Leather Walking Shoes – I strongly don’t recommend waterproof shoes because you will be sweating all day in them and you want something that ventilates well. But you also need to consider that it could be raining the entire time you are in Rome, so don’t go ruining a nice pair of leather shoes just for this vacation. Synthetic materials are key, like with most sneakers and some hiking shoes.
A Baseball Hat – You will be out in the rain, possibly, so a good hat that you don’t mind getting wet will be a key element in your wardrobe. You can also wear other types of brimmed hats, like a fedora, a Panama or a bucket hat, but depending on your raincoat, you may want to put up your hood, and a baseball hat brim is perfect for that.
Lightweight Pants – The reasoning here is different than in the summer. In this case, a pair of lightweight pants will be a good idea because they will dry more quickly. I am focusing on the potential for rain because this is one of the things that can ruin your trip to Rome in the spring or fall and it is a real possibility.
Shorts – Ok, this depends on if you are “That Guy”, which I used to be. I was the type who preferred wearing a hoodie with shorts in both the fall and spring. It is very comfortable to walk around all day like that, even in the rain, but it really does signal you as a tourist because apparently only American male travelers sport this look, unfortunately.
What Is The Weather In Rome In The Spring And Fall?
When I am referring to the Spring, I mean the months of March, April and May, in which the city begins to seasonally fill with tourists. The weather in Rome in March is shaking off the winter chill with an average low temperature of 42°F (6°C) and the average high temperature is still a comfortable 62°F (17°C). Rome in April is great for walking around with an average low temperature of 46°F (8°C) and the average high temperature is a comfortable 66°F (19°C). The average low temperatures in Rome in May are 54°F (12°C) and the average high temperatures are a comfortable 74°F (23°C).
When I am referring to the Fall (or Autumn), I mean the months of September, October and November, which is a very popular period of tourism in Rome. The weather in Rome in September is beginning to cool, with an average low temperature of 65°F (18°C) and the average high temperatures are still a comfortable 80°F (27°C). Rome in October is cooling, but there is a chance of a heat wave. The average low temperature is delightful at 62°F (16°C) and the average highs are an amazing 72°F (22°C). The average low temperatures in Rome in November are still falling to 45°F (7.2°C) and the average high temperatures are a comfortable 62°F (16°C).
Fall And Spring Packing List For Men Coming To Rome
As I mentioned, the items I’m listing here are specific to Fall and Spring travel for men coming to Rome, so these are the items that are the same as the Complete Packing List:
- Pre-Packing Requirements – No Change
- Packing Documentation – No Change
- Packing Technology – No Change
- Packing Entertainment – No Change
As for fall and Spring travel, these items are in addition to the ones listed as a part of the Complete Packing List:
- Packing Toiletries & Medicine – While not as important as during the summer, you may want to include sunscreen and lip balm because the sun in early Fall and late Spring can be surprisingly strong. A reusable water bottle will also be helpful if you are on a tour during one of the hotter days.
- Packing Clothing – In addition to the hat that I mentioned above, you will want to consider two other items. First is a lightweight raincoat. This should be more of a waterproof shell to wear above your other layers of t-shirts, sweatshirts or a fleece. The second item that goes along with this is an umbrella. There are two schools of thought here, bring your own, or just buy one here in Rome. You can do either, but if your packing is a bit tight, this is one that you can just plan to buy once you arrive. They are ubiquitous and inexpensive and you don’t even need to be concerned with bringing it home, just throw it out at the airport when you leave. Note: If you only have one of those giant golf umbrellas, don’t bring it. They are too large for travel and kind of inconsiderate to other people when you are walking around or seeing a historical site outside. Buy one of those cheap, black quasi-disposable types for €5.
