Hi, I’m Beppe Castro, the creator and publisher of the SaturdaysInRome web site. I thought you might like to know how this travel blog came about and why I think I have something to share with you.
I began traveling internationally more than 25 years ago. It included solo travel, group travel and traveling with children, so I think I have quite a range of experiences to draw from as I publish articles that most first-time or inexperienced travelers can use while they plan their adventures to Rome. I have travelled around the world, but for the last 15 years our passions have made us return, over and over again to Italy.
My experience with Italy goes back more than 50 years to my upbringing in a traditional Italian American household. From those humble beginnings I’ve experienced Roman and Italian culture firsthand through family members, art, culture and repeated trips to Italy for more than 25 years. These trips were self-organized and included solo travel as well as with my family. These experiences led us to make the decision to pursue our Italian citizenship, learn the Italian language and move our lives to the country that we love!
In addition to Italian citizenship and travel, one can’t discuss Italy without mentioning food. This isn’t solely a food blog, but I wanted to add some recipes that I’ve enjoyed making and eating here in Rome. I’ve been a decent home cook for most of my life, but I was able to improve my skills after attending some classes at the Culinary Institute of America. I wasn’t a proper student, just what they called an Enthusiast. These Bootcamp style classes grew my passion for cooking, and that is what drives me to include some recipes that I know you will enjoy!
I am very proud to recommend experiences to visitors to the country I continue to love. You can check out all my dining and travel experiences here.
